AliveBook is in a friends-and-family soft release. This page explains what we store, who processes it, and how you can remove certain data.
What we store
Clerk handles your email and account sign-in. Your library, listening progress, bookmarks, highlights, and optional feedback notes are stored in Vercel KV tied to your account. If you enroll your voice for hands-free wake, numerical speaker embeddings for that language are stored in your browser (localStorage) and synced to our server tied to your account.
Microphone and voice input
In immersive hands-free mode, the app uses your microphone while that mode is active—for wake-word listening, optional voice enrollment, and asking questions. When you ask by voice, raw audio from your question may be sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription. Browser speech recognition (Web Speech API) is also used where supported—for enrollment read-aloud alignment, as a fallback wake and transcript path, and for spoken questions or answer interruption—and may be processed by your browser or its provider; we do not control that processing.
Third-party services
Questions you ask are sent to OpenAI to generate answers. On-demand answer speech may use OpenAI text-to-speech. Narration audio is mostly pre-generated and served as static files. Clerk authenticates you; Vercel hosts the app and may collect basic analytics.
Deletion
To retrain your voice for a language, use Retrain voice in immersive mode. That clears the enrollment for that language on this device and removes the matching server-side profile before you record again. To delete your account and other associated data, contact the AliveBook team using the email you signed up with.
